Schistonoeidae Overview
Hodges
(1998) described this family based on the presence of a frenum (homoplasious with
Gelechiidae: Physoptilinae) and the female frenulum with two acanthi. The family
includes two monotypic genera, Oecia and Schistonoea, which
are the type genera of two subfamilies, Oeciinae and Schistonoeinae (Hodges, 1998).
Schistonoeinae occurs in the West Indies, and Oeciinae is pantropical, although
Hodges (1998) speculated that the latter was possibly introduced to other areas
from the West Indies.
