Introduction Identification Brachymyrmex sp.-02s is currently thought to be a new species (Deyrup, pers. comm.). Workers of this particular species or form, are pale yellow in color. They lack erect hairs on the promesonotum, the occipital region of the head, and the femora, and only have a few at the edges of the gastral tergites. The head and gaster have moderate pubescence, and the alitrunk has sparse pubescence, except dorsally, where it is moderate. The eyes are very small and only have about 3-4 facets in greatest diameter. This species is most similar to B. depilis, but differs by its having a much smaller eye with only 3-4 facets in greatest diameter, whereas in B. depilis the eye has 6-8 facets in greatest diameter. Other yellowish colored species known from the U.S. have erect hairs present on the head and dorsum of the alitrunk. All other known species present in this region are brown in color.
