Prenolepis imparis is a cool weather species of ant that dominates forested habitats in AL and MS in the Fall through early Spring. It is somewhat similar in appearance to Lasius and Parachina species, but differs from Lasius by having a constriction between the promesonotal area and the propodeum, and from Paratrechina species by its lack of thick, dark colored paired macrochaetae on the body. The color of this ground nesting species is variable between light and dark brown. The antennae and legs are long in proportion to the body. |
