by Joe MacGown, uploaded on 25 July 2018; updated on 3 August 2018
The list of ants below is based on collections made in the Paint Rock region of Jackson and Madison Counties in Alabama by Doug Booher and Dave Lubertazzi from 16 through 23 April 2018 and by collections made during the 2018 William H. Cross Expedition by Joe MacGown, Ryan Whitehouse, Juan Santiago, Steven Wang, JoVonn Hill , Richard Brown, and Doug Booher from 6 to 11 June 2018. Collections were primarily centered on a handful of Nature Conservancy sites including Keel Mountain Preserve, the Graham Farm Preserve and Nature Center, the Roy B. Whitaker Paint Rock Preserve, and the Sharp Bingham Mountain Preserve.
Thus far, we have collected 62 species of ants from the Paint Rock region, including three species not previously reported for Alabama: Stenamma meridionale Smith, Strumigenys hyalina (Bolton) and Temnothorax ambiguus.
For introduced species, a note is made in parentheses, and new state records are indicated by the asterisk symbol (*). Collecting localities follow species names in brackets. RH = Research House near Gurley, KM = Keel Mountain Preserve, GM = Graham Farm Preserve and Nature Center, and WT = Roy B. Whitaker Paint Rock Preserve, and SB = . Sharp Bingham Mountain Preserve.
